About Second Valley Conservation Park

Second Valley Conservation Park is located on the Fleurieu Peninsula, approximately 75 kilometers south of Adelaide, South Australia. The park encompasses coastal cliffs, dense native scrubland, and sandy beaches along the Southern Ocean. Its diverse geology features dramatic limestone formations that have been shaped by wind and sea, creating scenic headlands and sheltered coves. The area supports a variety of native vegetation communities dominated by Eucalyptus and coastal heath species, which provide habitat for rare and endemic wildlife such as the Southern Emu-wren and various seabirds. Historically, Second Valley was significant for indigenous Kaurna people for its natural resources and coastal access. Today, the park forms part of regional conservation efforts to protect native flora and fauna while allowing visitors to experience the rugged coastal landscape. Key recreational activities include walking along cliff-top trails offering panoramic ocean views, rock fishing, snorkeling around offshore reefs, and picnicking in designated areas. Notable landmarks include Parsons Rock, a striking limestone cliff formation offering lookout points over the Southern Ocean, and the nearby historic Second Valley township with its charming marina. The park’s natural beauty and accessibility make it very attractive for day visitors seeking coastal exploration and quiet bushland encounters. Entry is free, and the park is easily accessed via the Main South Road. While there are no formal campgrounds within the park boundary, nearby accommodations and campgrounds in Second Valley and Rapid Bay serve overnight guests. Visitors are encouraged to respect the fragile coastal environment and observe local wildlife responsibly.
